The journal Biblionews and Australian Notes & Queries first began as a sheet publication copied on old-fashioned methods common to the times.
It has survived through three separate series of publication. The first series lasted from 1947 to 1964 when it was called first BiblioNews and later Biblionews. The name was changed to Biblionews and Australian Notes & Queries in 1966 when it began to appear as a quarterly journal. The second series ended in 1972. The third series began in 1976 and virtually ended following the death of Walter Stone. No reference to a series has appeared on any issue since March 1982. There have been no gaps in publication since 1976 and with some minor omissions has been published regularly ever since.
In addition to our quarterly meetings the Society publishes its journal, Biblionews and Australian Notes & Queries, in four issues per year. The journal typically contains:
- an editorial,
- articles from contributors that may range from manuscript studies to national heritage policy,
- appreciations,
- obituaries,
- book reviews,
- photographs,
- notes & queries.
The journal provides a bridge to connect members whether they be collectors, librarians, booksellers, book lovers or for whatever reason are interested in books – to have, to read and to enjoy.
Recent uploading to electronic archival format has included issues since 2000.
