Charles Stitz would like to hear from anyone who can supply biographical information about Dr. Eric McDonald, whose library was offered for sale by Angus & Robertson in a priced catalogue in April 1963, described therein, (somewhat hyperbolically) as “the finest collection of Australiana ever offered for sale in Australia”.
Category: 2008-December Issue
Report of the Acting President for the Annual General Meeting of the Book Collectors’ Society of Australiato be held at 2pm at the Community Centre, Summer Hill, on 2 December 2008 (as prepared for the cancelled AGM originally to be held at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians at 1:30pm on Saturday, 6 September 2008).
FIRST, a brief history of Angus & Robertson. The original owners were David Angus (a Scotsman) and George Robertson. Their shop was at 89 Castlereagh Street, Sydney, opposite the department store David Jones Ltd. David Angus did not stay long in the business, but went back to Scotland, never to return. George Robertson did not have a son, but a daughter and two grandsons, one of whom, George, went into the business and was managing director when I worked there.
I’d like to formally introduce my brother David Blair, who is the editor and publisher of Blown to Blazes & Other Works of J.B. Blair and has done most of the work in assembling this anthology.
